![]() ![]() Playing games is a hobby you make time for and no rushing. Might as well go on youtube or twich and watch other people play. if you treat playing games like watching movies then no games would satisfy you. With the Trails series, all the grinding needed to progress in the game instead of there being a story mode difficulty for people who just want to experience the story would take months maybe even a year or more. Originally posted by Id:The point is I could easily watch all of the current MCU within a day or two, maybe even 3. I mean, you'll probably enjoy it just fine, but you'll be missing out on a lot of context build up in the preceding game(s). NO, Trails to Azure should not be your first Trails game. The only kinda-sorta-exception is the second Cold Steel arc, which is best played after first playing through both the Eastern Erebonia duology AND the Crossbell duology - and, ideally, the three Sky games, too.Īnd that's Trails in a nutshell, but as simply as I can manage - and I didn't even have to get into Dragon Slayer.ĮDIT: And also to, like, just answer the premise of the thread directly. great big TL DR version here: you can play the any duology first - whichever you want - but should never play the second game (or gaiden) of a duology before the first. It's basically the "Avengers" of the "Trails MCU" - a great big fanservice-heavy team-up game rife with character and plot threads from all of the preceding games.) (Note: the one big exception here is Trails of Cold Steel IV, which as you might guess from the fact that it's followed up by the Crossbell/Erebonia Gaiden, does far more than just wrap up an isolated "Western Erebonia" arc. And Trails? These are (mostly) damned good stories. Falcom has specifically stated (many times) that they've designed the series so that each new arc can function as a good entry point for new players.Īlso consider that if a story is only a good story because you don't know how it's gonna end. Purists will insist that this means you MUST play the games in order else the experience will be ruined - this is hogwash. In general you can expect characters and plot-threads from preceding games to appear in succeeding games - so if you play the arcs out of order, some things will be spoiled. ![]() There are also some spin-offs like Nayuta, but they're really not worth getting into. So to map out the series, it looks something like this:ġ. Gaidens are theoretically "option" if you (for whatever reason) really didn't care for the preceding arcs. Gaidens function as extended epilogues to the preceding arcs while simultaneously laying groundwork for future arcs. Duologies are basically single stories cut into two halves, and you really need to play the first half before moving on to the second. Generally speaking the Trails series consists of two types of games: duologies and gaidens. Guess it's time to wheel out the ol' Kiseki roadmap again. ![]()
